Who are we

The Student Petroleum Society (SPS) is a student led organization through the MacPhail School of Energy at Southern Alberta Institute of Technology. The SPS is also considered the SAIT Chapter of Society of Petroleum Engineers (SPE).

We are focused on building strong connections between students and the Calgary’s energy industry

What we do

Presentations

The SPS actively seeks professionals from across the petroleum industry to share their expertise directly with students.

These in‑school presentations help students explore various sectors, expand their knowledge, and discover potential career opportunities.

Field Trips

The SPS organizes field trips to active facilities and worksites, giving students the opportunity to see equipment up close and learn directly from the professionals who use it every day.

These experiences help put in‑class learning into real‑world context.

Networking

The SPS hosts a variety of networking and social events throughout the year, giving students the chance to connect with industry professionals and alumni in a relaxed, engaging setting outside the classroom.

In the spring, we also host our annual Industry Night, Our biggest events of the year. This event brings students and energy industry leaders together for meaningful conversations and career‑building opportunities

Society of Petroleum Engineers: SAIT Chapter

The SPS is an active student chapter affiliated with the Society of Petroleum Engineers.

Membership is free, and joining our club gives students access to additional events, learning opportunities, and a stronger network within the energy industry.
